Palm Jumeirah Dubai
Location and Structure
Palm Jumeirah Dubai is an artificial archipelago located off the coast of Dubai, United Arab Emirates. It is the smallest of three planned Palm Islands (Palm Jebel Ali and Palm Deira being the other two) and is built in the shape of a palm tree, comprising a trunk, 17 fronds, and a surrounding crescent that acts as a breakwater.
Development and Construction
The construction of Palm Jumeirah began in 2001 by Nakheel, a real estate company owned by the Dubai government. The island was created using land reclamation techniques, involving millions of cubic meters of sand and rock. By 2006, the island was ready for development, and infrastructure, including roads, bridges, and tunnels, was completed to support residential and commercial properties.
